When the lands stop being enough
should I eat air ?
There’s no water
in the civilization that
stopped living years ago
We cross oceans
climb mountains
melting into rivers
of acid, dissloving into
fumes of poison
No sparrows sing
No butterflies flutter
No fireflies shimmer
But the neon glints
and hurts the eyes
The cool air, artificial
stabbing like icicles
-the yin to the blazing Sun’s yang;
what a juxtaposition of temperament!
like our wonderful minds
orchestrating clever, devious schemes
from inside of our beautiful bodies
We were so proud!
but what of it now?
Now, when the Earth has begun to die
bit by bit
inch by inch
year by year
species by species
What of the technical brilliance
traded against age old common sense
and wisdom
When we started looking for life
outside,
as we killed
what was close and within.
